Another breakfast, same place, 1000 year old eggs in the porridge. On the way back to the hotel Uncle was waiting for us at an intersection. We returned to the hotel rooms together. He fulfilled his task to talk to our chauffeur who is a young man whose family lives in the countryside. He's here acting as a chauffeur for Xiao Mei's family. That's one of those cultural benefits for poor members of an extended family. We packed our lunch foods and bottled water into the trunk and were on our way to the Great Wall and Ming Tomb an hour's drive away.We were wowed by the view of an ever-expanding city: cranes in every aerial view, workers building roads, bicycles and brand new cars all about.
The Great Wall experience, one of the seven wonders of the world. The mix of people struck me: all the different languages, dress, skin texture (peasants' dry, tanned leather-like, lined skin), old people. AND this wall is bogus! It's a phony site, strictly for tourists, everything! But perfect in its reality to the real thing, I'm told. I noted the time-worn steps that are more deeply imprinted by feet along the right side of each step. A science spot!
